Lampard 'to hold more talks with Kante he looks to ease concerns over training'

Frank Lampard will reportedly hold more talks with midfielder N’Golo Kante after Premier League clubs voted to move to phase two of restricted contact training on Wednesday.

The Blues granted the midfielder compassionate leave to miss phase one of non-contact training training last week, due to concerns he has regarding the safety of a return to playing during the coronavirus crisis.

Kante was present at the club's training ground for day one of phase one training testing but is now remaining at home, where Chelsea will let him stay away from the team until he wants to return.

The Frenchman has previous health issues and also lost his brother to a heart attack.

No date has been put on his return and Chelsea will not apply any pressure for him to train again, even if it means he has to miss the rest of the season.

However, The Telegraph report that manager Frank Lampard wants to keep in constant contact and will now speak to Kante about the specifics of restricted contact training and the protocols involved.

Lampard was part of Tuesday’s managers’ meeting with the Premier League over the phase two protocols and captain Cesar Azpilicueta was their representative in the players’ call.

The Blues boss is fully supportive of World Cup winner Kante, who is thought to be particularly nervous about resuming football.

A number of BAME players across the league have been reluctant to return to training.

Office for National Statistics data states that black men and women are nearly twice as likely to die from Covid-19 as white people.

Kante has been a hugely important player for the Blues over recent years and has made 18 appearances in the Premier League this season with three goals to his name.

The 29-year-old will continue to complete home workout sessions during the period he stays away from the training ground.

He has been reporting for his coronavirus testing, which means he would be able to return to contact sessions at any point he may decide.
