Lampard's double deal delight

Published on: 17 July 2018

Frank Lampard has backed season-long loan signings Mason Mount and Harry Wilson to bring "quality" to his Derby County squad.

The Rams chief raided his former club Chelsea for 19-year-old midfielder, Mount, who was named the best player at the 2017 European Under-19 Championships as he helped England win the title.

He then scored 14 goals in 38 appearances on loan with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem last season as they finished sixth in the Eredivisie.

I'm delighted to get both of these deals done and add players of their quality and calibre to the squad.

Mount has yet to feature for Chelsea despite being at the club's academy since the age of six, but will look to continue his development with the Rams in the Championship next term.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Liverpool midfielder, Wilson, has experience of playing in the second tier having scored seven goals in 13 games while on loan with Hull City in the second half of last season.

He is also the youngest player to represent Wales when he made his debut against Belgium in October 2013 at the age of 16 years and 208 days.

Speaking about the double swoop, Lampard told the club's website: "I'm delighted to get both of these deals done and add players of their quality and calibre to the squad.

"I know Mason really well from my Chelsea links and I have also watched him play in their very successful youth teams.

"Harry brings incredible quality and hunger to the table here and he showed that last year while he was on loan at Hull. He's a full international too and he has a real desire to come here and improve."

Derby are 5/1 to win promotion from the Championship next season, while they are 16/1 to go up as champions.
