Laryea Kingston's alleged robber facing justice

Emmanuel Bortey Quarshie aka 'Crazy Born' has been put before an Accra Circuit Court  for allegedly breaking into the home of former Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston.

The electrician and resident of Nungua has been accused of  making away with electrical gadgets and personal effects worth GH¢4,250.

The accused person, who was put before a court presided over by Francis Obiri, was charged with robbery and he pleaded not guilty.

He has been remanded on the orders of the trial judge whilst the case has been adjourned to July 16, 2012.

Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector J.K. Anim, told the court that the complainant in the case was one Samuel Laryea Kingston, a professional footballer, an ex-member of the Ghana Black Stars football team and resident at Agblezza, near Teshie.

He said the accused person was an electrician who resided at Nungua.

According to him, on December 19, 2010, at about 1:30 am, the accused person, in the company of four others, all armed with pump action guns, cutlasses and hammers, broke into the complainant’s house. They subjected the entire family to severe beatings and thereafter robbed the complainant of his two laptops valued at GH¢3,000, an iPod valued at GH¢250.00, one Play Station valued at GH¢ 1,000.00, and bolted with them.

He noted that on March 17, 2012, the Regional Police Command received information that a group of young men were recruiting innocent youngsters to embark on robbery sprees within the Accra and Tema Metropolis.

The police officer said a team of policemen, led by G/Cpl. P. Osae of the Monitors Unit, Accra, traced the suspects to the scene at Nungua and managed to arrest the accused person at his hideout.

The police immediately conducted a search in the accused person’s house and retrieved one Play Station which he initially claimed was his.

Upon interrogation, he finally admitted to robbing the complainant and named his accomplices; Tei, Shaniel and Sheriff, all based at Nungua but now at large.

Mr. Anim stated that the accused also admitted to having committed several robberies at Nungua with his accomplices.

The police officer noted that the accused also confessed to having committed several robberies at Nungua and its environs between 2009 and 2010, adding that the accused was charged after the police concluded investigations.
