Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa insists relationship with Frank Lampard 'not bad' despite Spygate row

Marcelo Bielsa says the Spygate affair has not damaged his relationship with Frank Lampard.

The Leeds boss comes up against his opposite number at Chelsea for the first time in the Premier League on Saturday night.

It was in January of last year that Bielsa dispatched an intern to spy on Lampard’s Derby during training. The Argentine subsequently paid an EFL fine of £200,000.

But, despite Lampard’s fury at the time, Bielsa insisted: ‘It (our relationship) is not bad. The relationship I have with him is similar to the ones I have with the rest of my colleagues.

‘It was resolved by the authorities at the time, how these actions need to be punished. They were analysed by people who needed to analyse them.’

Bielsa has even praised the job Lampard is doing at Stamford Bridge.

‘During last season he developed a lot of players that were already at the club and this season he has improved his team by choosing players for the positions he deemed he needed,’ he said.

‘This is shown by the way the team is playing well.

'There are many different types of components in his team. There are young players who have developed, and there were signings with experience and signings with a big future.’
