Leeds close to Bielsa decision

Published on: 25 May 2019

Marcelo Bielsa's future will be resolved in the next few days, according to Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani.

The Championship side have the option to extend the Argentinian's contract when it expires next week.

Bielsa guided Leeds to the play-offs this season but they were beaten in the semi-finals by Derby County, who are 13/10 to defeat Aston Villa in Monday's final.

Bielsa would not be drawn on his plans for next season after the second-leg defeat to the Rams at Elland Road earlier this month.

"I can say we have a chance to keep him," insisted Radrizzani. "We'll see. The next few days will be decisive and we will make an announcement.

"We'll see in the next few days. We have an option until the end of the month. We are talking to him and we have few things to clarify but after that we will make our decision public soon."

Leeds won 1-0 at Derby in the first leg of their play-off semi-final thanks to Kemar Roofe's 55th-minute goal but then contrived to lose the second match at Elland Road 4-2 despite holding a two-goal advantage in the tie at one stage.

Aston Villa are 8/13 to beat Derby on Monday and be promoted to the Premier League.
