Leeds United have contacted Hamburger SV to register their interest in the Ghanaian defender Stephan Ambrosius.
The highly-rated centre-back has attracted interest from several clubs, including the Premier League side.
According to reports, Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has given the green light for the club to pursuit the 21-year-old.
Ambrosius has a year remaining on his contract with Bundesliga II outfit and they wouldn't mind selling him to avoid losing him for free.
Ambrosius is eligible to play for both Germany and Ghana, with his future at international level yet to be decided.
Ghana FA have recently made a move to lure the Germany-born player to represent their nation.
