Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities have had four of their players surprisingly named in national team call-ups in just 18 months since the change of ownership.
This cements the thought that if the Accra-based team puts its leg properly under the table from next year it could be a force in Ghana football with more of their players gaining places in the various national teams of the country.
The performances of those players caught the eye of the national team handlers, an occurrence that was not expected considering the short spell of the owners in charge of the club.
Wa All Stars which was re-branded and renamed Legon Cities was sold to new owners headed by businessman Richard King Atikpo in December 2019.
Since then, Fatawu Dauda, Joseph Adjei, Anim Cudjoe, and Jonah Attuquaye have been called into various national teams including Black Stars, Black Stars 'B' and the Black Meteors squads.
The experienced Fatawu Dauda was called to replace established Number 1. Richard Ofori in the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan. Dauda subsequently got the nod in between the sticks in the game Ghana lost 1-0.
Towering defender Joseph Adjei, who was part of Ghana U-20 team in 2015 had invitation to the Black Stars âB’ squad for the international friendly against Uzbekistan in March before later earning a call up to the Black Stars for the impending friendlies against Morocco and Ivory Coast.
Jonah Attuquaye had his first call up into the Black Meteors squad with teammate and U-20 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Mathew Anim Cudjoe.
All these call ups in less than two years after the club was reportedly sold to the new owners led by former Ghana international John Painstil around USD 2.5 million.
Their kits were changed from sea blue with yellow stripes in front of it to pink and black stripes with black pant. They also created a new crest.
Wa All Stars was a property of former GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi but sold it after being implicated in the number 12 video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas as a result of a life ban from all football related activities by FIFA.
Despite the change of the name, they remain in the history books of Ghana football as the champions of the Ghana Premier League in 2016.
Cities had a slow start to the campaign but upped their game in the second round which has elevated them from the relegation zone to the 9th position with 35 points.
The Royals host struggling Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium on Matchday 28.
