Lengthy lay-off for De Bruyne

Published on: 17 August 2018

Manchester City have announced that Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne is unlikely to play again until mid-November.

The 27-year-old has suffered a lateral collateral ligament lesion in his right knee and, although no surgery is required, he is expected to be out of action for around three months.

De Bruyne, who started his career in his homeland with Genk, had spells with Chelsea and Wolfsburg before signing for City in a £55million deal three years ago.

He missed 12 games after injuring his right knee in January 2016 but finished that campaign strongly on his return to action, scoring three times in the final six Premier League matches.

The dynamic midfielder has gone on to score 21 goals in 99 Premier League appearances for the club and played a vital role as Pep Guardiola's side won the Premier League title last term.

De Bruyne found the net 12 times in all competitions last season as City scored 106 goals and accrued 100 points.

He then helped Belgium reach the semi-finals of World Cup 2018 and scored a sublime goal in the last-eight victory against Brazil.

The midfielder came on as a substitute in Sunday's 2-0 victory at Arsenal after missing the Community Shield triumph against Chelsea following his exploits in Russia.

City, 8/13 to win the Premier League title again this season and 11/2 to lift the Champions League for the first time in their history, are 11/2 to beat Huddersfield Town 3-0 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Celtic have confirmed that they have signed City's Australian teenager Daniel Arzani on a two-year loan deal.
