Liberty president wants Kenya to emulate Ghana in youth football

Liberty Professionals president Alhaji Sly Tetteh has asked Kenya to emulate Ghana's youth development policy.

The renowned talent-spotter was speaking at a ceremony to the National Youth Talent Academy that won under-17 Cecafa tournament in Rwanda last December.

He blamed leaders for negative results recorded by Harambee Stars in international matches saying they lack proper planning.

''African leaders focus on senior teams without knowing the future of football is in the youth," said Tetteh.

"Ghana is a success story because there are working structures from the under-12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 23 and Kenya should copy us to move forward.

"When I come here and see under-12s play I believe there’s talent in Kenya but it isn’t easy to nurture the players. Kenya must start from grass root to grow," reckoned Teteh.

Ghana became the first African country to win the prestigious Fifa Under-20 World Cup in 2009.
