Libya have been dropped as hosts of the African Youth Championship which was scheduled to start on 18 March.

Ghana were expected to defend their title in the two-week tournament but they not have to go to another country to achieve their dream.

Caf's decision follows the uprising in Libya which has crippled activities, compromising security under leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Countries keen on taking over from the North African nation as hosts for the U20 tournament have been invited to express interest.

A new date will be set for the tournament after a final decision has been taken by Caf.

The decision to move the tournament will protect the participating countries, players and officials but will severely disrupt Africa's plans of naming its representatives for the U20 World Cup later this year.

Even though South Africa or Ghana have been touted as possible replacements, Ghanasoccernet.com sources within CAF say other countries who are capable of quickly hosting the tournament will be considered.

The wave of social and political unrest sweeping across Libya has forced the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to move the tournament.

Libya has been embroiled in civil strife for over a week with protesters asking for the country's leader Colonel Gaddafi to step down.
