LIGUE 1 - Marseille fan slapped with 2-year prison sentence

Published on: 27 October 2021

The municipal prosecutor's office announced Wednesday that a Marseille fan has been sentenced to two years in prison for disturbances outside the Velodrome during Paris Saint-weekend Germain's visit that left a police officer hurt.

Hundreds of people attempted to enter the stadium during the first half of Sunday's match despite the gates being closed, necessitating police intervention, who fired tear gas after an officer was injured "in the face."

In total, 21 persons were arrested and 17 were detained on charges of property damage, rocket possession, violence or insult, and resisting police officials.

Marseille has already been fined and faced with a one-point deduction by the French football authorities for problems in the fans in matches against Nice and Angers this season.
