LIGUE 1 - When Benoît Paire almost joined Olympique de Marseille

Published on: 12 October 2021

This Wednesday, the Stade Vélodrome will host a charity match for the benefit of the Didier Drogba Foundation and UNICEF.

Legends of the Olympique de Marseille like Fabien Barthez, Jean-Pierre Papin or even Samir Nasri and Didier Drogba will be there but also personalities like Jul, Pierre Gasly, Matt Pokora and Benoît Paire. The 50th tennis player in the ATP ranking returned to the Marseille club on certain past moments.

In love with the Olympique de Marseille since his childhood like his parents and his brother, Benoît Paire explained that he could have played for the young people of Marseille.

"I played football since I was born until I was 14 years old. The OM training center contacted me and offer me to join the academy. I had a choice between tennis and soccer, and it's true that in soccer you had to get away from my family, and maybe I wasn't ready at that age. Even though my dream was to become a soccer player, I'm a tennis player, so I'm very happy," he said.
