Lionel Messi breaks another Champions League record with PSG

The PSG forward is the second highest scorer in Champions League history with 126 goals.

After scoring Paris Saint-Germain’s opening goal against Benfica on Wednesday, Lionel Messi broke one of his own Champions League records.

The Argentine forward has scored against 40 different clubs in the Champions League. Messi has been most prolific against Arsenal, scoring nine times against the Premier League outfit

The PSG forward is the second highest scorer in Champions League history with 126 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo leads the way with 140 goals.

PSG took the lead against Benfica thanks to a Messi goal. The Portuguese side drew level just before half-time after Danilo Pereira put the ball into his own net.

PSG had won both of the opening Champions League group games before the Benfica clash, beating Juventus 2-1 and winning 3-1 against Maccabi Haifa. Messi also scored against Haifa, his first goal against the Israeli side.

That goal also saw the Argentine become the first player to score in 18 successive editions of the Champions League.
