Lionel Messi is human after all: Despondent in the dressing room

Published on: 18 January 2021

The Supercopa de Espana didn't end the way Lionel Messi and Barcelona wanted, with the Argentine being sent off in the final moments which was a blow to the star.

Barcelona were leading Athletic Club by one goal as the final minute of the game approached, but a goal from Asier Villalibre sent the match into extra time, in which Inaki Williams bagged the winner.

According to Deportes Cuatro, Messi was extremest despondent in the dressing room after the game, and disappointed as to what happened, apologising to his teammates for the red card he was shown.

In his match report, referee Jesus Gil Manzano indicated that Messi was sent off for hitting an opponent with his arm using excessive force.

Now we have to wait and see what punishment Messi will be given, for what was his first ever red card for Barcelona. If the Competition Committee deem the No.10 to have been aggressive, he could be banned for between four and 12 games.

Should he be charged with a lesser offence, Messi could be out for one to three games.
