Liverpool have received a boost in their bid to sign Timo Werner this summer - after Inter Milan were reportedly rebuffed in an attempt to sign the RB Leipzig hotshot.

Werner is expected to be in demand this summer, having scored an impressive 21 goals in 25 Bundelisga appearances this season, plus a further four in eight Champions League games.

Liverpool are believed to be leading the race to sign the 24-year-old - although they face competition from Bundesliga leaders and reigning champions Bayern Munich.

Now Inter Milan have reportedly entered the race for the Germany international as Antonio Conte's men resign themselves to losing Barcelona target Lautaro Martinez.

However, when the Serie A club contacted Leipzig about Werner, they were given short shrift, according to Spanish publication Sport via Team Talk.

The publication reports that Inter were told they had little chance of signing Werner, as he was a deal with Liverpool was 'all but done'.

It is welcome news for Liverpool fans, who will be excited to see the Germany hotshot adding more strength in depth to the Reds' fearsome frontline of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

As well as his prolific club record, Werner has scored 11 goals in 29 appearances for Germany, and can play either as a centre-forward or on the left wing.
