Liverpool legend Lawrenson: Sturridge at injury crossroads

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson says Daniel Sturridge is at the crossroads.

Lawrenson wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "Maybe the time has come for Daniel Sturridge to bite the bullet – before Liverpool decide to.

"Nobody wishes somebody to be injured. Let me tell you, it's a nightmare as a player to be sidelined for a lengthy spell of time.

"The latest setback for Sturridge will have come as a huge blow, mentally as much as physically.

"But now the striker has to put himself on the line.

"Jurgen Klopp mentioned on Friday that Sturridge needs to learn the difference between serious pain and only pain.

"We've always been led to believe the England man is someone who needs to be at 100% fitness to be comfortable to play.

"That's a worry because, as a professional footballer, you are never really 100% fit.

"Sturridge, then, may have to start playing through the pain barrier. He may have to surprise himself – maybe even beginning against Swansea City on Sunday."
