Liverpool legend Smith impressed by Comolli sacking

Liverpool legend Tommy Smith was happy to see the club's owners act in the sacking of football director Damien Comolli.

Smith wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "I don’t know what Comolli did or what a Director of Football is supposed to be about. Basically he’s a chief scout, I guess.

"But he’s a guy in a suit rather than a tracksuit so I don’t see why it should affect the players or Kenny Dalglish. Truth is he’ll probably be reassured by the words Tom Werner came out with, backing him.

"But it does prove that Werner and John Henry are not just careful owners – but ruthless men in pursuit of success. And that’s a good thing."
