Liverpool are waiting in the wings to prise away Christian Atsu from FC Porto if Tottenham fail to firm up their interest in the player.

The 20-year-old has drawn a lot of admirers from afar after impressing heavily during a loan spell at Rio Ave last season.

Atsu, touted as the latest top talent to roll off the production line at the Portuguese giants is wanted by his former boss having worked under Andre Villas Boas at Porto.

It has been widely reported in the British media that the Anfied outfit have gone a step ahead to enquire about the player's valuation, in the hope that Spurs fail to push for the exciting Ghana star before they test the water with a bid.

Atsu has reportedly being recommended by Liverpool scouts to new manager Brendan Rodgers who is keen to bring a gifted left-footer to the club this season.

The Ghanaian super star scored six goals in 27 appearances for Rio Ave and valued at around £7 million.
