Liverpool transfer round-up: PSG "won't beg" Kylian Mbappe to stay, Mohamed Salah update

Published on: 19 January 2021

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has provided an update on long-term Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe.

The French forward, along with PSG teammate Neymar, has entered the final 18 months of his deal at Parc des Princes and is currently in negotiations over new terms.

The latest news from Ligue 1 will put Liverpool on alert, while Real Madrid are also among Mbappe's admirers and will take note.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has provided an update on his future at Anfield, one month after he refused to rule out a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

And the Reds have reportedly made an approach for a Brazilian wonderkid tipped to leave his homeland in a record transfer.

Here is Tuesday's Liverpool transfer round-up.

Mbappe yet to pen new PSG deal

Kylian Mbappe is yet to sign a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, according to the club's sporting director Leonardo.

Long-term Liverpool target Mbappe, 22, and Brazil superstar Neymar, 28, have entered the final 18 months of their deals with the Ligue 1 giants.

PSG are keen to tie down both players to new terms but Leonardo insists he will not "beg" either player to stay.

“I hope that they are convinced that PSG is a good place for a high level and ambitious player," Leonardo told France Football , per GFFN.

“We just need to find an agreement between their desires, their demands, our expectations and our means.

“We are not going to beg: 'Please, stay.' It is more calculated than that. Those who really want to stay will stay. We speak regularly and I have good feelings on both of those matters.”

Salah doubles down on stance

Mohamed Salah insists he is happy at Liverpool and his future remains in the Reds' hands, amid reported interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Salah, 28, was in the spotlight before Christmas after he refused to rule out a move to the La Liga duo during an interview with Spanish outlet AS .

The Egyptian - who is contracted at Anfield until 2023 - also said the ball is in Liverpool's court regarding his future.

He doubled down on that stance during a fresh interview with Norwegian outlet TV 2 , saying: "If you ask, I say I want to stay here as long as I can, but as I have said before, it is in the hands of the club.

"I will always give 100 percent to the last minute I am in this club and I want to win as many trophies as I can. And I want to give 100 percent to the people, who show me love all the time."

Reds join race for Brazilian wonderkid

Liverpool have made an approach for Flamengo sensation Daniel Cabral, according to reports from Brazil.

It is claimed Cabral, 18, is the subject of interest from 17 clubs and the Reds are believed to have made initial contact regarding a transfer.

The Brazil youth international is able to play as a central or defensive midfielder and has made one senior appearance for Flamengo, in the Copa do Brasil.

He was also named on the bench for a top-flight match against Sao Paulo last week.

Cabral is tipped for a very bright future and the report adds Flamengo plan to sell him for a club-record fee, surpassing the £38.7million Real Madrid paid for Vinicius Junior in 2017.
