Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds eye RB Leipzig duo with contact made

Published on: 16 January 2021

Liverpool continue to be linked with centre-halves as they deal with an injury crisis at the back.

So far though Jurgen Klopp has opted against making moves in the January transfer market.

More than two weeks remain for the German to make a signing or two as he deals with long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Several people have urged the Reds to bring in a new face at the back if they want to retain their Premier League crown.

Klopp has rarely acted in January and has stuck to that formula thus far, although the uncertain future of Georginio Wijnaldum remains an issue.

We bring you the latest transfer rumours coming out of Anfield.

Reds eye Leipzig duo

Liverpool are keen on RB Leipzig duo Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano.

The Reds have made contact with Upamecano’s management according to Bild while they also retain an interest in Konate.

Upamecano's release clause comes into play this summer but the German club have no interest in selling the player this month in an effort to raise more funds.

The centre-half is not short of admirers meaning Liverpool would have to fend off considerable competition to sign the player.

Konate meanwhile has come on in recent months alongside the Frenchman.

Cut-price De Paul deal a possibility

Liverpool are looking to sign Udinese's Rodrigo de Paul according to  Tojofichajes.

The Reds have reportedly held initial talks regarding the purchase of midfielder with Inter Milan, Juventus and Leeds United also keen on the player.

Udinese are feeling the financial affects of the global pandemic and may be more willing to part with their star players.

They have dropped is price tag to just over £30m and De Paul could be a replacement for the potentially departing Georginio Wijnaldum.

Reds again encouraged to sign defender

Robbie Fowler is the latest former Red to urge them to bring in a new defender.

Klopp's options at the back have been depleted which threatens to hamper their ambitions this term.

They have, so far, made no moves to bring in cover but Fowler thinks it would be a good move if a new face arrived.

He Goal : "I think, ideally, yes - because of injuries.

"Liverpool are in a great space and they are playing unbelievable football. Eventually, the results will be a little bit better.

"The championship is still Liverpool's to lose. They are the team to catch.

" Manchester City will run them close - but they probably need someone to come in. For a supporter point of you want your team to be the very best. Jurgen and his staff are certainly looking into it."
