Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds eye wonderkid, Samuel Chukwueze linked

Published on: 25 November 2020

The final international break of the calendar year has been and gone and now a congested club schedule will put Liverpool’s squad to the test.

Injuries to defensive duo Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk could tempt Liverpool into the transfer market in January, while the Reds might also be tempted to beef up their attack if the right opportunity presents itself.

There are also peripheral figures at the club who were not moved on in the summer window, and the possibility of their exits will once again arise this time around.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours:

Reds chase Villarreal star

Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs monitoring a move for Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.

Caught Offside cite a report from Spanish outlet La Razon which claims the Reds are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

The Nigeria international’s contract contains a £75million release clause and a report from Football Espana earlier this year claimed Liverpool tried to sign the player in the January transfer window last season.

Chukwueze has netted 13 goals in 89 appearances for the Yellow Submarine.

Jota tipped to ‘go higher’ than Liverpool

Diogo Jota has made a remarkable start to life at Liverpool with eight goals in his first 12 appearances for the Reds.

However, his former Portugal Under-21 teammate Stephen Eustaquio has tipped the forward to ‘go higher’ than Anfield.

“Jota was in Pacos, Atletico Madrid, Porto, Liverpool. He works a lot,” he told La Vanguardia , as quoted by Empire of the Kop . “He is a very hard-working person, very delicate with the ball, he plays a lot.

“He is not going to stay there; he is going to go higher. I shared a dressing room with him, he was captain of the Portugal Under-21 team.”

Whilst it appears this is Eustaquio - now a Canada international - is bigging up his former teammate, it should be noted that Liverpool are Jota’s fifth club of his career, aged just 23.

Reds in for Icelandic wonderkid

Liverpool are said to be weighing up a move for Icelandic wonderkid Isak Bergmann Johannesson, who plays for Swedish outfit IFK Norrkoping.

A report from hitc.com builds on news from the Mirror that the teenager would cost a fee of £5million upfront alongside a further £5million in bonuses.

The son of former Leicester City and Burnley midfielder Joey Gudjonsson has netted four goals and provided 11 assists in his 29 first-team games for Norrkoping, while he has also won his first senior cap for his nation.

Johannesson is known to play either as a playmaker or a winger and has also been linked with Manchester United and Juventus.

Last month, Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet reported on interest from Liverpool in the starlet.
