Liverpool are on the verge of winning the Premier League title but that's not the only thing they're top of, according to a recent survey.

The Reds have been named as the United Kingdom's favourite football club following a poll produced by YouGov.

YouGov's FootballIndex tracker has Jurgen Klopp's side top with 8.3 per cent of the population ahead of bitter rivals Manchester United who sit second with six per cent of the votes.

The study apparently took in 16 different metrics, tracking the opinions of the public every day. These metrics include the public's perceptions of clubs' management, players and coaches, fan culture, tradition and their record of success - even the attractiveness of their football.

As well as asking supporters about the club they follow, the poll asked them about the likelihood that they would watch rival side on television.

Chelsea were the next best club in the poll with 3.1 per cent - almost three times less liked than Liverpool and almost double of Manchester United.

Manchester City and Arsenal were next on the list with two per cent each. Arsenal's eternal enemy Tottenham followed them with 1.8 per cent - meaning Liverpool are four times more popular than this trio.

Wolves were the UK's next favourite team - with a rating of 1.5 per cent to place them in seventh.

Newcastle, Everton and Aston Villa round up the top 10 with 1.4 per cent of the votes.
