LOAN STAR OF THE WEEK: Chelsea striker Solanke fires for Vitesse

Published on: 23 March 2016

What an impact Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke made on the weekend.

The 18-year-old scored two goals coming off the bench in Vitesse Arnhem's 3-0 defeat of FC Groningen, the second of which was pure class.

After replacing fellow Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown after 65 minutes of play, Solanke quickly found himself on the score sheet after capitalising on a sloppy defensive mistake to take a neat touch before putting his side ahead from point blank range.

Georgian international Valeri Qazaishvilli put Vitesse 2-0 not long after and the icing was on the cake in the 84th minute when Solanke scored a delightful third goal for his side.

After latching on to a defence-splitting clearance, which I'm sure defender Guram Kashia will claim was intentional, Solanke intelligently used the outside of his right boot to flick the ball over onrushing Groningen goalkeeper Sergio Padt with poise and precision.

With seven goals to his name from 20 Eredivisie appearances - good for equal second on the Vitesse goal scorers list - the 2014 English Youth Player of the Year is continuing to affirm himself as a Chelsea star in the making thanks to a scoring return which has Vitesse sitting seventh on the Dutch top flight table, six points behind third-placed Feyenoord.

The man himself was pretty wrapped with his performance after coming back from an Achilles tendon injury.

back from injury with a couple of goals and a win, thanks for the messages.
