LaLiga Santander tasted glory aplenty at Russia 2018. The World Cup drew to a conclusion with a whopping 40 goals having been scored by players based in the best league on the planet, which had no fewer than 10 representatives in the final between France and Croatia.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was one of the star men in the showpiece in Moscow, which France won 4-2. Griezmann had a direct hand in two of his side's goals, whipping in the free-kick that Mario Mandzukic headed into his own net to open the scoring and then making it 2-1 from the penalty spot.

Following Didier Deschamps' side's triumph, six LaLiga Santander players leave Russia as world champions: Atletico Madrid duo Lucas Hernandez and Griezmann, Barcelona pair Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele, Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and Sevilla FC's Steven N'Zonzi.

Meanwhile, a four-strong LaLiga Santander contingent – Atletico's Sime Vrsaljko, Madrid's Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic and Barça's Ivan Rakitic – made history by helping Croatia to a runners-up finish. Moreover, another two players who ply their trade in the Spanish top flight, Barcelona's Thomas Vermaelen and Real Sociedad's Adnan Januzaj, also took their places on the podium, having captured a bronze medal with Belgium.
