Lukaku: I admire that Conte tells you everything to your face

Inter’s Romelu Lukaku is fond of the approach taken by Antonio Conte with his players as he looks to lead Inter to their first Scudetto since 2010.

Lukaku, who joined the Nerazzurri for €80 million in the summer, has silenced his critics since making the move to Italy as his strike partnership with Lautaro Martinez has produced over half of Inter’s goals so far this season.

“He [Conte] tells you things to your face,” Lukaku told Sky Sports.

“In the Champions League match against Slavia Prague I played very badly and he told me in front of everyone, that’s never happened to me before in my career.

“He told me he would take me off after five minutes if my performance didn’t improve.”

Lukaku has no problem with Conte’s tough approach though as he believes it gets the desired result.

“It strengthened my confidence and woke me up at the same time,” the forward added.

“He does it with everyone no matter who you are.

“Everyone is equal. You work hard, you train hard and you play. If you don’t do what he says you don’t play.”

Conte will be hoping that Lukaku can lead his team to three points when they face Cagliari on Sunday afternoon as two draws in their last three games has seen the Nerazzurri slip behind leaders Juventus in the Serie A table.
