Lyon captain Memphis Depay confirms Barcelona interest

Dutch-born Ghanaian footballer Memphis Depay has confirmed Barcelona's interest in him.

The Lyon captain has been linked with a move to the Catalan giants as he nears exit at Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The 27-year-old's contract at the Ligue 1 side expires in June and he has been heavily linked with joining up with compatriot Ronald Koeman at the Camp Nou later this year.

The Netherlands star reportedly agreed personal terms with the Catalan giants right at the end of last year's summer transfer window, but a move eventually fell through due to a lack of player sales at Barcelona.

The forward, born to Ghanaian father and a Dutch mother, has given insists into his future plans.

“I want to show my qualities in the largest possible club, in the largest possible championship. I'm ready to take a step,  said the Olympique Lyon attacker in an interview with L'Équipe.

“They have shown interest, but so have other clubs,” Depay confirms, “but nothing has changed.” So it will be some time before the 27-year-old Dutchman's new club is known.

The only thing that is certain is that he will leave OL after the end of his contract in the summer.
