German Bundesliga side Mainz O5 are set to send Ghanaian forward Abass Issah on loan in January following his lack of play time at the club. 

The former Black Starlets captain arrived in Germany in the summer but has struggled to break into the first team of Mainz.

"Since he has a Ghanaian passport, there is no way for him to play in the U-23, but he has to go to the field, and he deserves it," explains sporting director Rouven Schröder.

The former Olimpija Ljubljana signed a five year deal with the club on transfer deadline day.

The 20 year old has featured only once for Mainz in the Bundesliga, when they drew 0-0 with Hertha Berlin at the Opel Arena in October.

The 20-year-old enjoyed the last eight minutes of action when he replaced Jean-Philippe Mateta.

In September, he made his debut for the club by coming on as a substitute in the 60th minute to help Mainz defeat TuS Koblenz 2-0 in a friendly
