Malik Abubakar opens up on joining Swedish giants Malmo FF

Ghana forward Malik Abubakar has revealed why he joined Swedish giants Malmo FF in the ongoing transfer window.

The 21-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Swedish topflight side after leaving Portuguese outfit Moreirense.

Abubakar who started his football with Ghanaian youth side Charity Stars arrived in Portugal in 2018 to sign for Vizela and it was at the club that he caught the attention of Moreirense.

But loan spells at Fafe and Casa Pia saw him develop into one of the fearful strikers in the lower league.

The lanky attacker revealed that when Malmo showed interest, he did not think twice.

"It was a cool feeling I can say! I did not dare tell anyone at first. I knew it was a big club and as soon as I knew that MFF were interested, I wanted to come here. There was no doubt. And now I belong to the MFF family, this is my new home," said the striker.

"I was so happy that Malmö FF wanted me. I had many offers and needed to decide where I was going, which is why I was so happy about Malmö's interest.

"If you look at the situation with covid, it is a bit difficult for clubs to buy players and make transfers. When this type of team - in the situation we are in - was interested, then I did not have to think twice. It was just to move and accept the offer. I am happy to move here with this type of long-term contract. Now it is important to find time and adapt as quickly as possible to help the team", he added.
