Ghana's No. 1

Man City 'interested' in former Liverpool midfield target and other transfer rumours

Published on: 02 October 2022

Manchester City might well have the best group of midfielders in world football, but for a club at City's level is always pays to have an eye on the future.

Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan were all in typically excellent form in City's thumping 6-3 defeat of Manchester United in the derby on Sunday, but in the next year or so at least one of them could leave.

Gundogan is now in the final year of his contract, and so far there haven't been any serious discussions between the 32-year-old and the club about extending his stay. Meanwhile, talks will be held with Bernardo Silva over the coming months, with the Portugal international understood to still be keen on a move to the Iberian Peninsula.

City have scouts all over the world, but the next midfielder to join the Blues might be one who is already playing in the Premier League.

According to the Sunday Mirror, City are 'maintaining a keen interest' in Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes. The Portugal international joined the Midlands side over the summer from Sporting CP in a deal worth around £42m, but there is a growing belief that he won't be at Molineux for long.

City have witnessed first hand his talent; Nunes earned praise from Pep Guardiola for his performance for Sporting against City last season, even if the Blues did win 5-0. Liverpool - who Nunes was expected to join over the summer - are still interested in him.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star is reporting that City are considering improving the terms of Erling Haaland's contract even though he's only been at the club a few months.

City's £51m signing has made eight Premier League appearances for the champions, but in that time he has scored 14 goals, including hat-tricks in three consecutive games. The 22-year-old is breaking records left, right and centre, something which is doing little to quell the never-ending transfer links to Real Madrid.

Haaland is already earning a wage similar to that of the team's top earner De Bruyne, and his current deal is believed to include a release clause.
