Man City 'look to tie down Eric Garcia to new contract' amid Barcelona links

Manchester City are looking at opening contract talks with Eric Garcia amid interest from Barcelona.

The 19-year-old has plenty of admirers at the Etihad Stadium and there is hope he will blossom into a mainstay of the team's back four in the years to come.

Garcia, who joined City from La Masia for just over £1million three years ago, is thought to be willing to thrash out fresh terms.

City are understood to have discussed the idea of contract negotiations before the coronavirus pandemic and it is expected those will still take place.

Barcelona have interest in re-signing the central defender but the Premier League champions have no intention of letting him go.

Garcia has made 11 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side this season and was particularly impressive during the 2-0 win over Sheffield United in January.

The Spaniard's contract has two years left to run and City are keen to tie him down longer.
