MANCHESTER UNITED are set to battle it out with Liverpool for the signing of Marseille winger and Ghana World Cup star Andre Ayew after Louis Van Gaal tied up a move for Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera, with Brendan Rodgers also in need of fresh faces after losing Uruguay's Luis Suarez to a FIFA ban.

The versatile 24-year-old has been playing at the top of his game in Brazil, and will be hoping he can inspire his team to a win against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal this afternoon.

With just a year left on his contract, Marseille are keen to cash in before losing him on a free transfer, and both United and Liverpool are desperate to add Ayew to their ranks, with the Ghanaian giving nothing away about his preferred destination.

The 2011 African Footballer of the Year has previously expressed his desire to play in England, saying: "It's a league every player dreams about.
