Man Utd could consider selling Paul Pogba amid PSG interest

Published on: 21 July 2021

Manchester United could be forced to sell Paul Pogba for as little as £43m this summer so that they won’t lose out on a transfer fee if decides to run down his contract and leave as a free agent next year.

Pogba has entered the final 12 months of the long-term deal he signed when he returned to United as the most expensive player of all time in the summer of 2016. But unless he agrees to a new deal, the Old Trafford club are vulnerable to losing him for nothing for a second time.

90min revealed earlier this month that United officials have approached Pogba’s camp to discuss a new contract and agent Mino Raiola has engaged with the club. However, the hierarchy are split over how to proceed, with some keen for the player to sign fresh terms to prevent him leaving for free and others concerned a potential deal of worth £400,000 per week is too much.

There has also been increasing speculation that Pogba is happy to run down his existing contract to give himself more options for the next and perhaps most important step of his career.

Indeed, in that respect, the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, the latter of whom 90min can confirm are keen following the return of coach Massimiliano Allegri, would be more likely to make an approach if Pogba became a free agent due to existing financial constraints.

Paris Saint-Germain are the other European giant now being linked with a Pogba approach. The Daily Mail suggest that Raiola is already in talks with PSG over personal terms and that the French club believe they could persuade United to accept an offer just £43m (€50m) in the circumstances.

However, as yet, the only discussions are said to have been between PSG and Raiola, with no contact between the clubs. A report from the Manchester Evening News has also made that clear.

A report on the subject this week from L’Equipe explained that contact between Raiola and PSG sporting director Leonardo has been ongoing for ‘weeks’, but player sales at the Parc des Princes may be required first in order to fund the proposed €50m bid.
