Bryan Robson believes Bruno Fernandes can be Manchester United's new Paul Scholes.

Fernandes joined the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon in January and has instanly became a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

'Bruno looks a special player,' Robson said on talkSPORT's Sports Breakfast.

'I've met him a few times, I've seen him at the training ground and he's got a fantastic attitude.

'He mixes really well with the lads and you can see why he was captain of Sporting.

'What a talent he is. He's not a Roy Keane, Paul Ince or Nicky Butt type of midfielder, he's more like Paul Scholes.

'He's brilliant at getting in little pockets in between the defence and midfield, he gets into these areas, gets himself space and he's got terrific vision where he can sees a pass and perform a pass like Paul Scholes could, and he can score goals too.

'Hopefully he proves me right and goes on to be another Paul Scholes for Manchester United.'

Fernandes has been hailed as the purchase of the January window as his three goals and four assists in his opening nine games since signing from Sporting have inspired a strong run of form for the Red Devils.

It is a dramatic turnaround in fortunes at Old Trafford as they struggled to keep in touch with the race for Champions League qualification but now find themselves just three points off fourth in the Premier League.
