Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has arrived in Ghana to launch the partnership between the English club and telecommunications giant, Globacom.

The 48-year-old Dane arrived on Wednesday night to join a host of top Globacom officials to do the launch at an expected grand event at the plush Movenpick Hotel on Thursday in Accra.

The evening’s event will however be preceded by an autograph session at the Glo World outlet at the Oxford Street in Osu.

Here, fans will be allowed to have their jerseys and other paraphernalia signed by Schmeichel, interact and have a rare photograph opportunity with the retired footballer regarded as the best goalkeeper of all time.

Schmeichel has achieved several team and individual honours in his career which spanned over two decades.

He is however best remembered for his inspirational role in leading the Red Devils to an astonishing treble in 1999 and says he is excited with his first time visit to Ghana.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, I have never been to Ghana so I am excited with this partnership,” he said.

“We have a big launch tomorrow which we will talk more about it tomorrow and it’s (presence in Ghana) an opportunity again to connect with the many, many fans that we have first of all in this region Africa – one of our fastest growing regions in terms of supporters and fans and of course a lot of fans in Ghana.

“It is therefore a great way to connect with the fans and showing the fans of this region we are serious about our work here.”

Glo is the first African company to have landed such a partnership with a top European side.

This agreement will see the famous Man Utd Soccer School sending technocrats to hold seminars with local clubs aimed at enhancing knowledge to raise the profile of African teams.

A similar launch has taken place in Nigeria where Glo is most prominent in its operations.
