Man Utd transfer roundup: Red Devils join Liverpool in Samuel Chukwueze hunt

Published on: 26 November 2020

With the summer transfer window now what seems like a distant memory, Manchester United have switched their focus to potential January recruits.

While United have secured some impressive results in recent weeks, this season has shown the need for further investment in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Solskjaer does not have to worry about another international break until March, but with Premier League and Champions League games coming thick and fast, and the Carabao Cup and FA Cup set to add to their intense fixture schedule, one or two winter additions would not go amiss at Old Trafford.

There are also a few players who are expected to be moved on from United as Solskjaer continues to shape the squad in his vision.

With that, here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours...

United in Chukwueze hunt

Manchester United are among a host of clubs keeping a close eye on Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, according to Spanish publication La Razon .

While Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Everton are credited with an interest, United and Liverpool are mentioned as the two most likely destinations for the 21-year-old Nigerian.

The versatile winger has been a first-team regular for Villarreal over the last two years and boasts an eye-watering €80million release clause.

Chukwueze is under contract with the Spanish club until 2023. Capable of playing on either flank, the Nigeria international represents an alternative to Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, who United failed to sign in the summer.

Sancho opens up on ‘hard’ season after United saga

Speaking of Sancho, the England international has admitted that he has found himself in a ‘hard situation’ this season following a dip in form after being chased by United over the summer.

Sancho was United’s top target but a deal failed to materialise with the Premier League side refusing to meet Dortmund’s £108m asking price.

Sancho has struggled to replicate the blistering form he showed last season, but appeared to turn a corner with a goal and an assist in Dortmund’s Champions League win over Club Brugge on Tuesday.

"I am just happy that I am playing," Sancho told DAZN .

"I have coaches and teammates that believe in me. Recently, it's been a hard situation for me.

“But it's all about how I come back and have performances like this [against Brugge]. They will hopefully get me back to the top, how I was playing before."

United an option for Inter outcast Eriksen

Manchester United are a potential destination for Inter Milan flop Christian Eriksen, according to Corriere dello Sport .

Eriksen has been tipped to return to the Premier League after failing to make an impact at Inter following his move from Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Arsenal are also mentioned as possible suitors for the 28-year-old Dane, who established himself as one of the Premier League’s best playmakers at Spurs before moving to Italy.

Eriksen has been a peripheral figure at the San Siro under Antonio Conte this season with only three Serie A starts to his name.
