Manchester United ‘make contact’ with Milan Skriniar and other transfer rumours

Manchester United have reportedly enquired about the transfer availability of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. The centre-half is in the final year of his contract and can speak to clubs from overseas suitors in January.

The 27-year-old is said to be attracting interest from a number of clubs as a result of his looming expiry date and his form with Inter. The Slovakia international - who has played every Serie A game this season and kept seven clean sheets in all competitions so far - is reportedly on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Now, 90min reports that United have taken an extra step by making contact with Skriniar’s representatives. The article claims Inter Milan are concerned by the interest the centre-half is garnering amid fears they will not be able to match the contract terms offered by PSG or Premier League outfits.

Vice-President Javier Zanetti, though, is positive that a new deal can be struck for Skriniar. “We are in talks to extend the contract as conversations are progressing well. We hope to get it done and signed soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, Portugal football journalist Sofia Oliveira (via the Daily Express) claims United were in talks with midfielder Enzo Fernandez before he joined Benfica this summer. The 21-year-old has played all but one game this season, recording three goals and four assists for his club, who are yet to be beaten this campaign.

His form is again piquing the interests of United, Oliveira claims, and he could be available for transfer next summer if an offer comes in that Benfica cannot refuse. Fernandez may be named in the Argentina squad that travels to Qatar for the World Cup this month after making his international debut in September.

He arrived in Portugal from River Plate for around £10.5m after providing 12 goals and 10 assists in 53 first-team games.
