Manchester United 'ready to offer Pietro Pellegri escape route from nightmare spell at Monaco'

Manchester United are interested in Monaco's young striker Pietro Pellegri, according to reports in Italy.

The 19-year-old has severely struggled with injuries since making his move to Monaco from Genoa in January 2018, where he became the one of the most expensive 16-year-olds in the world after the Ligue 1 side shelled out £18million for him.

However, despite being touted as one of Italy's brightest talents in recent years, Pellegri has struggled with his fitness which has restricted him to just six competitive appearances for Monaco, scoring just one goal.

While his injury record may put off other clubs, it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to take a gamble on him and bring the Italian to Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports Italia via Football Italia.

Solskjaer already has several attacking options at the club, as he tends to alternate between Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Odion Ighalo, who is currently on loan.

However, it seems Solskjaer sees Pellegri as one for the future, who would fill in the void left by Ighalo once he returns to China.

The forward caused a sensation after breaking through in Italy, where he made his Serie A debut at the tender age of 15.

Pellegri then went on to score three league goals for Genoa at the age of 16, which included a brace against Roma.

Now the teenager is looking to get his career back on track and could be offered the chance to do so at the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
