Manchester United star Diogo Dalot reacts after scoring his first goals for Portugal

Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has described Portugal's 4-0 win over the Czech Republic on Saturday evening as a "night to remember", after scoring twice to claim his first goals for his country.

The 23-year-old, who has quickly become a key figure in manager Erik ten Hag's thinking at Old Trafford, scored either side of half-time to help put Portugal on the cusp of qualifying for the finals of the Nations League. They will require just a point from their final group game against Spain on Tuesday evening to secure their place in next June's semi-finals.

Dalot, who has started all six of United's Premier League fixtures so far this season, fired Portugal in front just past the half-hour mark, tapping in from the edge of the six-yard box, before netting his second and his side's third with a left-footed effort from distance. It was his first appearance in Portugal's Nations League campaign and he made sure that he left his calling card.

Reflecting on a special occasion, Dalot, taking to his Instagram page, said: "A night to remember. How special it is to play and score for Portugal."

The win over the Czechs only marked Dalot's sixth senior cap for his country, meaning he could not have timed his performance any better, with not long to go until Portugal boss Fernando Santos names his squad for the World Cup. The United ace will have aspirations of being his country's first-choice right-back in Qatar.

Portugal, who qualified for the tournament via the play-offs, will compete in Group H alongside Ghana, Uruguay and Korea Republic. The 2016 European Championship winners will have aspirations of going further than they have managed in each of their last three World Cup campaigns, failing to make it beyond the round of 16 since reaching the semi-finals in 2006.
