Manchester United thrash Halifax in behind-closed-doors friendly

Manchester United's fringe stars got some minutes under their belt in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the club's Carrington complex on Monday afternoon.

The game was designed to aid the fitness of players who saw little or no action in Sunday's defeat to Brighton.

The likes of Raphael Varane and Donny van de Beek were involved following their substitute appearances on Sunday.

United won the game 5-1 with Eric Bailly, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Elanga also involved.

The club's season got off to the worst possible start on Sunday, losing 2-1 to the Seagulls at home.

They were 2-0 down to a Pascal Gross double at half-time and even the introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo couldn't turn things a round.
