Mancini: Inter haven’t deserved to win

Inter have fallen from the summit of Serie A to fourth position since the new year and coach Roberto Mancini conceded they needed to find a way out of their slump.

The Nerazzurri have been actively looking to strengthen their title credentials and have been highly active during the current transfer window, however the 51-year-old refused to use the squad changes as an excuse for their form.

“January is an important month for every club,” he said. “Every team has a low point in their season, we hope to get out of it soon.”

“We’ve lost games which we didn’t deserve to win but we also should not have lost. Though we did so many good things before January 6 that we are still in the top four, it is nothing serious.”

“[The derby] is an important game which is played in a decisive moment. Winning the derby gives you something extra even though there are only ever three points.”

This week saw Sampdoria’s Eder join the Beneamata, however the forward may not be the last addition to the squad this winter with negotiations believed to be taking place for Sevilla’s Ever Banega.

The Argentinian has notched six goals and two assists in all competitions this season and Mancini spoke openly about the central midfielder.

“He’s skilful, technical, he has personality and his contract expires later this year,” the former Manchester City manager continued. “Do I like him? Yes.”

The coach’s comments come after vice-president Javier Zanetti confirmed interest in the 27-year-old, who has been given permission to talk to other clubs.
