Mancini: Inter need to take more chances

Inter coach Roberto Mancini has urged his side to be more clinical and increase their goal tally as they travel to play strugglers Hellas Verona, who are fresh from their first win of the season against Atalanta on Wednesday night.

Following the Nerazzurri’s 10th 1-0 win of the season against Chievo, the Milanese outfit are the least prolific scorers in the top six, having scored a total of 27 goals, netting just three in their last five games which also saw the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side lose twice.

“We’re struggling to score goals,” Mancini said during his pre-match press conference.

“We played a good game against Chievo, just as we did in the Derby prior to missing the penalty.

“But we created 24 chances, scoring just one goal. When you create that much, you should score at least twice, otherwise you end up panicking in the last minutes.

“We should be better at killing games off.”

The Nerazzurri boss also insisted that Mauro Icardi will start tomorrow, claiming that the great number of options he has in attack make it difficult to decide who to start with.

“I have six forwards, I can only field three of them,” Mancini added.

“They’re all working well and are available for selection.

“Personally, I’m pleased with the way Mauro [Icardi] performs. He’s still very young and has of course a huge margin for growth, but this applies to all young players.”

The Argentinian Inter skipper, who won was joint top scorer in the 2014-15 season with 22 goals, found his ninth goal of the campaign on Wednesday night against Chievo, earning his side three vital points.
