Maran: Chievo victory against Genoa is redemption for derby defeat

Published on: 28 February 2016

Chievo coach Rolando Maran praised his team’s performance, particularly their physical strength, in the 1-0 victory at home to Genoa in Serie A on Sunday.

After losing 3-1 to Hellas Verona in the Derby della Scala last weekend, the latest triumph for the Flying Donkeys against the Grifone was seen as the best way to atone for it.

“We made a good step forward. The result came with a great test and we redeemed ourselves after the last week’s defeat,” Maran told Sky Sport Italia.

“For us it is a crucial win. We had to redeem ourselves after the derby and we did great. I saw my team grow physically during the game and this was what we wanted.”

With 11 matches remaining this season, Chievo are now equal 10th with Empoli in Serie A with 34 points and they will travel away to play against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo next Saturday night.
