Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp is itching to start working with Asante Kotoko defender Awal Mohammed.

The 24-year-old only joined Kotoko in 2011 from Feyenoord Academy and has since gone on to form a solid partnership with captain Ohene Brenya at Kotoko’s rear.

His ruthless approach has seen him develop into a fearsome defender which proved vital in the Kumasi-based club’s Premier League success last term.

Awal is expected to travel to South Africa to finalize his move to Maritzburg sometime this week and the former Asante Kotoko coach says he is thrilled by the prospect of working with the stout defender.

“I will really like to work with the player (Awal Mohammed) here in South Africa to contribute to his progress,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“It is not only Awal Mohammed but for now he is the point of discussion but nothing is finalized yet but I will be really happy to have him.

“I have followed him from Feyenoord Academy since he was fifteen and seen his progress and I will like to have him in my team.”
