Mark Hughes had faith in Jack Butland

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes spoke to The Mirror and had no fear that Jack Butland would come through and perform as a number 1 goalkeeper should.

“It was always in mind that, if Asmir left, we had someone in the building who was a potential No.1

“We always had the view that at some point Jack would be the No.1 and he’s worn that No.1 shirt very comfortably.

“The risk was lessened because of Jack’s ability, his presence, and his manner. He’s a mature individual and those qualities have helped him take everything on board and to come in and do as well as he has done.”
