Marseille boss Deschamps to replace Nations Cup departures

Olympique Marseille coach Didier Deschamps is looking to replace players who will be leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations this January.

The French giants will be missing as many as four players including stalwart Andre Ayew for the tournament which starts on 21 January in Gabon and EquatorialGuinea.

The ex Juventus boss however though presented with numerous options admits the inferior financial standing of OM to other competitors will restrict his January acquisitions to only loan deals.

"Lots of players would like to come here or hope to come here," said Deschamps.

"We've been offered tens of them. We could have had four or five in training today. But we can't invest, so it will to be in the shape of a loan.

"It'll obviously be a player who isn't playing at his current club. The equation isn't easy to solve."

"The power to invest isn't there. Others have it. Good for them."

Marseille face third-tier Red Star in the French Cup on Saturday, after which Andre and Jordan Ayew (Ghana), Souleymane Diawara (Senegal) and Charles Kabore (Burkina Faso) will depart to their respective national sides to prepare ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
