Ghana international Andre Ayew has escaped severe punishment in France after being been banned for one match following the red card in their match against Lorient last weekend.

The 23-year-old, who plays for Marseille, was shown a straight red during last weekend’s 1-0 win at Lorient.

Ayew alongside Lorient goalkeeper Fabien Audard were sent off as tempers flared among both sets of players.

The Ghanaian international was spared the maximum four-match suspension as the Disciplinary Committee accepted his argument that he was no violent.

Ayew said he was only trying to separate the ensuing brawl and calm down tempers at the Stade Yves Allainmat-Le Moustoir.

Ayew will not be involved in Marseille’s French Lique 1 game against Bastia.
