Massive boost for Ghana as Chinese side clears Asamoah Gyan for AFCON qualifiers
Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan available for this month's back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique after his Chinese club cleared the Ghana captain for the matches because of injury, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Insiders at Chinese side Shanghai SIPG have told Ghana's leading football news website the Ghana captain is fit for the matches to be played this month.

The Black Stars technical team was fretting over the fitness status of the China-based captain after his injury while playing for his club.

The Shanghai SIPG attacker suffered the setback in their opening Asian Champions League clash with Melbourne Victory in Australia, which they lost 2-1 about two weeks.

Gyan did not play in the Chinese league's opening matches last week sparking fears that the injury prevented him from playing the match.

However the club's insiders says Gyan's exclusion from last week's match was only a preventative measure to ensure that that he is not rushed into a return.

However he is fit and could have played in the first match of the league season and this means he will be available for Ghana for the two upcoming matches.

The Black Stars take on the Mambas on 24 March before travelling to Maputo three days later for the return leg.

The last time Gyan failed to play for the Black Stars due to an injury he picked up at club side was in the game against Comoro Island in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in the second preliminary round.
