Match Preview: Medeama versus Legon Cities

Published on: 16 April 2021

Medeama will be without influential duo Amed Toure and Rashid Nortey when they host Legon Cities on match Day-20 of the Ghana Premier League fixture on Sunday.

The two players are suspended for the crunch tie at the A’koon Park.

Toure received the marching off orders after scoring a brace in the side’s 2-0 win over Dreams FC at home last weekend.

Midfielder Rashid Nortey will also miss the match due to yellow card accumulation. He received cautions against Legon Cities, Elmina Sharks and Dreams FC.

But the club has several options available to choose from with the likes of Eric Kwakwa, Kwasi Donsu and Agyei Boakye as well as Benjamin Arthur all available.

Striker Prince Opoku Agyemang is expected to be the arrowman and will be supported by Abass Mohammed in the absence of Amed Toure.

It’s an all familiar territory for Legon Cities Bashir Hayford – having spent two season in Tarkwa between 2010-2012.

The visitors boost their relegation fight with a well deserved 2-0 win over Great Olympics in the capital derby last week.

Momentum is building up for the team with striker Hans Kwoffie and Victorien Adebayor expected to cause problems for the home team.

Iconic former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is expected to travel with the team to the mining town in a massive bid to cause an upset at the A’koon Park.

Cities remain determined in their fight against the drop as they look at moving to the top of the premiership standings.

They are four point above the relegation zone and win over Medeama will be very essential in their quest to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

The arrival of Bashir Hayford as head coach changed the status quo this campaign when the club started to win some matches.

Cities have four five in the season and all came under Hayford but the last two months have been unconvincing.

The Royals have managed a single victory in their last seven league games, drawing four and losing two.

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan is also in contention for his first start this season after sitting on the bench in their win over Great Olympics last week.
