Inter Allies took a giant step in their quest to beat the drop following their 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Liberty Professionals in Week 29 of the Ghana Premier League at the El Wak Stadium on Sunday.

Inter Allies were fully aware of their position on the log where only a win could guarantee their safety in the league.

The La-based outfit for off to a dream start as diminutive attacker Nassiru Hamzah opened the scoring with just a minute on the clock.

And despite Liberty having their fair share of possession, the host were awarded a contentious penalty after referee Otis Opppong adjudged Nassiru Hamzah to have been impeded from scoring when he had beaten Samuel Sarfo and Simon Zibo. Captain Isaac Twum elected himself to take the resulting penalty, and he scored to double Inter Allies lead.

Liberty turned the heat on Allies midway through the game but were unable to pull one back as referee Oppong brought the game to a close.

And in the 93rd minute, substitute midfielder Benjamin Eshun scored a consolation for the Scientific Soccer lads.

The win takes Inter Allies to 12th position on the table with 39 points, and have to avoid defeat to Hearts of Oak in the last match to escape the drop.
