2019/20 Ghana Premier League: Week 2 Match Preview - King Faisal Babes vs. AshantiGold SC

Published on: 03 January 2020

After suffering a 4-1 humiliation to Dreams FC in the first game of their return to the top-flight at Dawu last week, King Faisal Babes have the opportunity to make amends this weekend.

The Sensational Club will come up against regional rivals AshantiGold SC at the Babayara stadium in Kumasi on Sunday with the hope of getting their first victory of the season.

Anthony Commey and his men will try to avoid back-to-back defeats to prevent any complications in the season.

King Faisal are expected to hand debuts to experienced duo Bashiru Osman and Michael Akuffo who recently joined the club in Sunday's regional derby against the Miners.

AshantiGold SC on the other hand are travelling to Kumasi with the aim of making it two wins out of two on Sunday against the premiership newbies.

It looked easy for the Miners in their opener as they beat another newcomers Great Olympics 3-0 at the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi last weekend.

But the task this Sunday won't come easy as AshantiGold have never beaten King Faisal in Kumasi in the league since latter first gained promotion to Ghana's elite division in 1995.

New trainer from Turkey, Kasim Gökyildiz will be at the dugout to direct affairs for the Miners for the first time if he has been able to acquire a working permit or assistant coach Yakubu Sheriff Mambo will lead the team on Sunday as he did last week.

New signings Eric Esso and Frank Akoto are in contention for their debuts for the Gold and Black outfit if selected for the game.

AshantiGold are likely miss centre back Richard Osei Agyemang who was replaced in the first half in last week's fixture after sustaining an injury.

Prediction: King Faisal Babes 1-1 AshantiGold SC
